Health Update

Well, Connor's cardiology appointment went fantastic today! He shows no sign of heart problems and was diagnosed with Vasovagal. With proper hydration, sleep and being careful when standing up, he should continue to be a healthy teenage boy! What wonderful news! We will be keeping a daily health log of how much he has drank, how much sleep he got and if he had any episodes of fainting or blacking out, so that we can keep on top of it and hopefully see it go away.
I had my endoscopy today and had another nice little sedated nap. They did see some flattening of the villi and did a biopsy of those areas to test for celiac disease. I am not too excited to eliminate even more foods from my diet, but if that is what is causing all my symptoms, then I will do it.
Thank you to all the friends and family that have prayed, worried, and cared about us these past few weeks and months. I think we are close to finding answers!

Flags by Connor
I got to be crafty this week at Karen’s house. She did a darling workshop where we made Birthday and Thank You cards, that I will be handing all out in the next few days. I have a lot of people to thank with all the help I have been getting from friends and neighbors. I also got to have my colonoscopy on Thursday. The procedure itself was not that bad, but the prep-day before was the hard part. The colonoscopy turned out fine. Nothing was found so they decided I should go back for an endoscopy. Fine by me, it just means I get to get sedated again! Friday John and I went out for yogurt with our neighbors the Burr’s and had a fun time getting to know them better. Saturday was the Ward breakfast and Egg hunt. Connor helped Jakey so I could take pictures and there were no tears, so I consider it a pretty successful morning! My mom had a little bit of a pity party (just a rough day with my dad), so I called and asked her if she wanted to go to the new City Center mall in downtown Salt Lake Saturday afternoon. It was so crazy busy because it had just opened up on Thursday! It was a little too overwhelming for me and I just wanted to leave. I look forward to going back and actually enjoying it when it isn’t quite so busy.

John was amazing and took the day off of work so that he could take me to my appointment and take care of things as I was preparing for the procedure the night before and morning of. John did some phone calls that needed to be done and after running errands (It was payday after all) he took the boys to a premier of The Hunger Games. Our neighbor called a few days ago and asked if John and I would like to go. Being that is was the day of my procedure, I asked if I could send John and Connor. I then remembered that Nathan had just finished the book and would love to go too. I was able to get them 3 tickets and the boys went to ta 9pm show, getting them home close to midnight! I would have liked to have gone, but I thought it would be more special for the boys, because they had all read the book and I had not. We had Family Night at Grandpa and Grandma McKenzie’s house last night. We (us and the Duggars) brought dinner and we shared a lesson that John and Debbie had left with us before they went on their mission. We celebrated Connor’s Birthday with a big Chocolate cake and presents. It was a nice evening, and after Jacob helped rearrange the breakables, it was time to go. (I was exhausted!) Sorry Grandma for leaving you to find your decorations.

Connor – This weekend Connor decided that he wanted to make some flags for the game, Capture the Flag. He told John what supplies he needed at the hardware store and paid for them and then Saturday night he went to Wal-Mart with me and bought the fabric. They turned out fantastic and he even got to use them today with his friends. Everyone thought they were pretty cool, me included! We take Connor to his Cardiologist appointment this Thursday after my procedure. I am anxious to find out what is going on. He has been doing pretty well on his fluids, so we should be able to rule that out by then, hopefully!

Nathan – The boys were so excited to put the trampoline together that as soon as John gave the okay on Friday, Nate was out there getting it put up. He and Matt got the mat and springs put on without any help. They couldn’t jump on it until Saturday after John put up the fence and pads. They have been out there ever since. I love it! Nate read some cooking instructions wrong last week and about set the smoke alarms off. He put some pizza rolls in the microwave for 12 minutes! We started to smell them at 6, and I had Connor run them outside while I opened windows and fanned the kitchen. The pizza folls and plate were a total loss. Nathan also thought he was pretty clever when we had Sloppy Joes for dinner and he made “Sloppy Joe”. He is such a funny kid and makes us all laugh!

Matthew – Matthew is really having a hard time at dinner these days. He says he doesn’t like whatever it is that I have made and will whine and cry until he is the last one at the table and then will end up eating it all. It is so frustrating! John overheard him say “Finally, mom made something good for dinner!” That was the night of Sloppy Joes and chips!

Michael – Michael gets to play with so many different friends, it is just great! He got to play at Will’s on Monday, School on Tuesday and Thursday, Keaton Wednesday (and almost every day), Brady Thursday while I was at the doctor, and Friday at Tad’s! He has so much fun and will ask for his different friends. He has been having fun playing Transformers with Keaton this past week and riding bikes outside. While Michael was with Lori at the school (Tad’s mom) he told her and another friend, for no apparent reason, that “My mom doesn’t eat food anymore.” Poor kid has to watch me fast or limit my food and doesn’t understand the difference between not eating and eating differently than him.

Jacob – Jakey got to have a play date with my friend Dawn on Thursday. She said he did great and I hope she isn’t just saying that so I don’t feel guilty for leaving him with her last minute. He is such a busy body and loves to tease. I am looking for shoes for him so he can go outside and ride the lion bike with the rest of the boys. Jakey had fun at the egg hunt and was quite happy with just one egg. Connor got him a few more and he just sat and played while the “hunt” was going on around him.

EKG Update

SO I got a call today from our doctor. He had read the results of Connor's EKG and did not have great news. He told me that I needed to take Connor to a cardiologist because it showed he had a possible prolong QT and Right Ventricular Hypertrophy. What he said that means is that at one point of monitoring his heartbeat, it took a little long for the next beat, and that the right side of his heart may be enlarged. Connor has an appointment next Thursday, so hopefully we will know more then. We are hopeful that this is all due to dehydration, but won't know until next week.

Weekly Update

More stuff to wrap around his neck

Happy Birthday!
We have another bike rider!
Pot of Gold
Nate's Trap

This week we celebrated Connor’s Birthday and St. Patrick’s Day. Connor’s Birthday was spent at Red Robin for dinner, as we do every Birthday in our family. St. Patrick’s Day I hid a pot of gold (treats) for the kids to find before the movie, the boys had green pancakes and had green Oreo shakes for dessert. The food coloring didn’t really show up in the shakes, but I tried.

Connor – This was Connor’s week! Tuesday my parents came out and Grandma took Connor to eat at Chuck-a-Roma while Grandpa stayed and “Played” at our house. Wednesday was his Birthday. I woke him up with a hug and a kiss and took him and his friend Ammon to Subway for lunch. I sat there and talked with the boys as they both consumed a foot long sandwich, soda and a cookie! After school we picked John up from work and ate at Red Robin (Yum). Connor asked if he could have a shake, and being that it was his Birthday, we said yes. Not thinking, he polished off his shake and a glass of water. By the time our food came, Connor was already full and didn’t even eat half his dinner. Of course there was no room for dessert either, so we took that home and had it after he came home from Young Men’s. Friday Connor had a Scout campout and melted his boots in an effort to get warm. Connor also deleted his Facebook account because he was sick of the negativity. Saturday started just like every Saturday, trying to get the kids to do their jobs so we could do something fun! We had a little bit of YouTube drama and John helped clean up that mess. After lunch, Connor was loading the dishwasher with the help of Jacob. At one point he bent and picked up Jake, put him in the air and called him a cute Jakey thing. Then I heard what sounded like Connor tripping over the Dishwasher door. Suddenly I heard Jacob scream and turned around to find Jacob lying on the dishwasher door with Connor face down on top of him! I started yelling at Connor to get off of his brother and he just laid their as the dishwasher continued to come out of the wall. I grabbed Jake and Connor finally began to scramble to his feet. Still yelling, I told him to get up I asked him what he was doing. He then told me he had fainted! I told him to sit on the couch and l hollered for John to come in from the garage and look him over because I was still trying to settle Jacob and make sure he was okay. Connor had a bruise on his eye and a bump on his head. As John and I are asking him questions, he began to get irritated and told us to stop freaking out, that it happens all the time. WHAT!!! Now I really started freaking out. John told me not to call the Doctor, but I decided to texted him. After going back and forth asking Connor questions, he told me that it was probably Vasovagal, and would be fine until Monday. We went in to see him today, and after more questions, he is pretty sure that that is what it is and it has been brought on by dehydration. He sent us for an ECG just to be sure, and we should get those results tomorrow. All in all, it was a crazy weekend and more stress than I would have liked to have had.

Nathan – Nathan made a pretty amazing Leprechaun trap and unfortunately didn’t catch anything. He also left me a very detailed message about being very put out that I wasn’t home when he returned from school. He wanted to let me know that he was home, but that it sure would be nice if I would have left the front door open so he didn’t have to go around and through the garage. I didn’t plan to be gone when they got home, but was stuck at the checkout at Wal-Mart. His voicemail just added insult to injury, because I hate to be gone when they get home if I haven’t told them beforehand.

Matthew – Friday the boys went out to play and I told Matthew that I wanted him to try to ride a bike again. He was not happy about it, but I made him do it anyway. His bike was too small by now, so I got Nathan’s down and within 5 minutes he was riding a 2 wheeler! He was so proud of himself and couldn’t wait to get back out and practice on Saturday. After all, the boys can’t wait to ride up to Maverick for treats! Tuesday the boys were supposed to go Birthday shopping for Connor, but Matthew had made some not so good choices and had to stay home. Luckily, Grandma was back from taking Connor and stayed and played games with Matthew, so his punishment turned out to be quite rewarding!

Michael – Michael was so excited to see the Lorax on Saturday afternoon. Matthew had read him the book in preparation for the show and Michael was so cute, pointing out the things that he would see that was like the book. He only had to go to the bathroom once, but other than that, he stayed in his set the while time and enjoyed the show. Michael says some pretty funny things. One of the words that he gets mixed up is “forgot”. He told John that he “got-for” the syrup on his pancakes.

Jacob – Tuesday was haircut day for the 4 boys while Connor went to dinner with Grandma. Jacob looked absolutely darling with his short hair spiked up in the front. He was really good and hardly cried. Jacob is now walking everywhere! If he falls down, he pops right back up on his feet. I put a basket of books upstairs in the corner with his other toys and he loves to “read” them. He will slowly turn the pages and study it as if he were reading. Jacob is starting to make more sounds, but no real words. I think that will be coming very soon.

John again organized the garage so that the bikes can now be down and his car can still be in the garage. He also got the bulbs planted that I had bought from Thanksgiving point last year. John had an insurance guy come out and as they were discussing how much life insurance he should get, John told him that I only needed enough for 3-5 years, because I was “Cute and wouldn’t have a problem finding someone quickly”. I told him that I guess I better start checking out my options. Lol

Thursday I attended the Republican Caucus and even though it was terribly long, I enjoyed being a part if the process. John and I went out to dinner with my friends from high school on Friday and had to get a sitter for the kids because Connor had gone to his campout. It was so nice to come home to a quiet house with all the kids in bed except for Jacob. This week I am looking forward (not really) to my colonoscopy. I do look forward to feeling better soon and if this is what I have to do, then so be it.

Good Morning Birthday Boy!
Lunch with the boys
Nerf darts from Matt
His own camera for making videos
Card from Nate
One lucky lady!
Make a wish
Well, today was Connor’s 14th Birthday. I love when my kids Birthdays come around and I have the chance to spend the whole day thinking of only them. I love to think about the pregnancy, the day they were born and all the days in between. Connor is an amazing son. He has matured into such a smart and thoughtful young man. I am grateful that Connor has patience with us as parents as we feel our way through this maze we call parenthood. I had a wonderful, Connorful day! I got to wake him up this morning with a hug and a kiss, take him and his good friend Ammon out to lunch and talk with them as they each inhaled a foot long sub, and then to our traditional dinner and presents at Red Robin. Connor asked if he could get a shake and since it was his Birthday, he could get whatever he wanted. Well, after eating the whole thing and downing a full glass of water, he couldn’t even finish his burger and fries. Connor loves to get the burger with an egg on it (yuck). We took the Mile High Mud Pie home and after he came home from Young Men’s, we sang, he blew out a candle and the boys polished off the pie. Connor’s Birthday is the first of the year and I never seem to stop thinking about the days my kids were born and the months leading up to it. I love being a mom to the most amazing boys on the planet. What a fantastic job I have!

Weekly Update 3-13-2012
It has been another couple fun filled weeks. We celebrated Oreo’s 100th Birthday on March 6th by singing “Happy Birthday” to Oreo, and making Oreo shakes with lactose free ice cream . I finished my March table runner and have been helping a friend bind her quilts that she made a few years ago for her kids. The kids had parent teacher conference, and I continue to have health issues!

Connor – I can’t believe that my baby is turning 14 tomorrow! He forgot his guitar and asked me to bring it to him. I said he would have to pay me, so I made up this story problem… “Gas is $3.57 a gallon. The Honda Odyssey gets 17 miles per gallon. If Connor’s mom brings him his guitar and drives 2 miles to the school, how much does he owe her for the round trip?” I posted it on facebook and after many comments (Connor included) he said he thought I was making fun of him. My final post was this,… “Connor thought I was making fun of him with this post. I love you son and appreciate everything you do for me. I am grateful that you decided to join our family and be our 1st in "all things parenting" 14 years ago to the day, tomorrow! Happy early Birthday buddy!” I am so thankful to be Connor’s mom and have enjoyed so many fun times with him. Connor is lucky enough to have some great friends that he has made in this ward. One of the mom’s has put together a Nerf gun fight day, (I call it his play group) and they run around the gym and fight till the death! (Not really) Anyway, he has had a lot of fun and looks forward to going on Mondays.

Nathan – Nate has been writing a story that he let me read the other day. It was so good and full of descriptive words. He has so much enthusiasm and expression in his writing. I would love to see him publish a book. It finally snowed enough for the kids to go play in the yard for a few days. Nate decided to make a Snowman and ended up making Snow-brothers! Parent Teacher conference was great. I think Nathan’s teacher really likes him and he is getting straight A’s. Nathan was able to read a little bit from a story that he wrote in class and my favorite part was when he said he watched “a ton of TV as a kid”, and referred to someone as a “Smarty McFarty”. I love that kid!

Matthew – It was the Birthday celebration for Dr. Seuss books last week and Matthew has had more fun reading all the Dr. Seuss books he can get his hands on. He will check them out at the school library; he has read all that he can find at home. He has even been known to read to his little brother for as long as he will listen. Matthew did very well at his parent teacher conference as well. He is above his reading level and doing great in all his other subjects. We are so lucky to have such Smarty McFartys. I was able to take Michael and Matthew on a special date to Disney on Ice. It was Toy Story 3 and we had a great time. Matthew was a great big brother and really helped out when he needed too. (More to that later) I had fun being with the boys and I think they enjoyed a special night just for them.

Michael – Michael will try to get out of going to school every day, but when I pick him up, he will have had a great time and be so glad he went. He is just my strong willed boy and that is okay. Michael has been doing better at making “good choices”, and will even tell me when he makes a good choice. After a time out he will come out and come right to me, say sorry for whatever it was he did and give me a hug. He has been a lot sweeter lately too. The other morning after John and I had gone to the Market for our “date” he came in and woke me up by saying, “Thank you buying Chocolate cereal!” Michael LOVED Disney on Ice! I let them bring a spinner from home and he would sit with the spinner going and just stare at the stage. There was some drama getting there. I parked 2 full city blocks away and when I got to the box office to pick up our seats at will-call, I realized I didn’t have my wallet. I asked the security guards if they would keep an eye on my boys so that just I could run back. Needless to say, that was the most exercise I have had in months! With ID in hand, I got our tickets and we headed up to our seats. The show was just getting started when we walked in the door to the stadium. As I looked closer at our tickets I realized there was 1 on row 21 and 2 on row 27! I called John and he was furious! That is NOT what he paid for. Well, I had the boys sit on Row 27 together and the usher said she would watch them while I went to fix the tickets. Again Matthew was the big man in charge and did a great job taking care of his brother while his mom abandoned them again! Well 20 minutes after the show had started and one seat change later, we were all together watching the show. At that point John has called the ticket guy who feels horrible and has made a deal to get us better seats. I did not want to move again, but took the tickets to an usher at intermission and told him what John had told me. In the meantime, Michael needs a drink and Matthew need to go potty. I keep telling them that we can go as soon as we get our tickets back. Finally the usher brings us back our tickets and after a quick trip to the bathroom, drink for Michael and a final seat change, we are sitting on the second row on the floor. What a way to end the show!

Jacob – Jacob had his 15 month appointment with our doctor, Mike Ryan. He has been taking care of Jacob since he had to pull back his foreskin when he was only a few weeks old. I think it was one of his first patients and definitely the worst that he has ever seen (still). It had grown all the way back and another doctor had to actually come in and cut it loose again. (Sorry for being so graphic) I was in tears, they were comforting me more than Jakey. It was not a good day. I was remember all this and thinking how grateful I am for caring doctors that love my kids almost as much as I do, who take the time to talk to me and my kids and let me give immunizations when and how I want them to be given. On top of tipping the scale at 25 pounds even (57%), he is 30.5 inches (31%) and head size is in the 74%. Jacob is a walking machine, looks super cute with his new haircut and loves to put things on his head or around his neck. Jacob has 5 teeth and now eats his food out of these packet things, because he has to do it “himself”.
