Sick kids

Quilt block

It has been a few weeks since I have written, not because there has been nothing going on, but because it has been crazy at our house! Last week was the first time that all my kids have been sick at one time. Friday I finally took the kids in and we had croup, double ear infection and flu. I am sure I won’t remember everything that has happen in the last few weeks, but I will put down some of the highlights that I remember.

John – John has been super productive this month. He has been the KSL King, posting and selling anything that the kids are willing to give up and anything that we no longer want to move around and store anymore. John stayed home sick one day this week after going to work for 2 days sick. I actually got to get out of the house and get all our food for the rest of the month. John gave me a very “sweet” valentine gift. He gave me little containers of my favorite candy and a bracelet. I have to say that the card was the best part. This weekend we changed our room back to how it was before we had Jacob and Sunday the garage broke and Chad and Michelle came over and fixed it for us.

Jamie –More blood work and no answers. It has been frustrating to be so tired and think I know why and find out that no one knows why! I am taking a break from it all for a while and am going to try some positive thinking. ;) This last week I played nurse to all the boys. Connor was home all week and the other boys were home off and on (I had to go get Nathan twice.) I was so glad when Monday morning came and they left! I love them, but they were squeezing every last ounce out of me. I am back on the candida diet. I read some things that made me think that everything I am going through is because of this overgrowth, so if I can fix it with my diet, I will try to keep at it. I did a Thirty-One open house and got to see some of my friends again (I don't get out much these days). I finished my quilt block for the month in the first week and made a table runner for March. It felt good to be productive.

Connor – Connor stayed home from school all of last week. He has never stayed home from Jr. High for being sick because he didn’t want to make up all the work he would miss. He was so sick he hardly ate, and spent most of his time in his bed either sleeping or watching movies. It was just a horrible flu, but it kicked his butt! Connor made video the week before and put it on youtube. He did a really good job and I was very impressed with his effort. Connor has been taking fencing this month and has enjoyed fighting with swards. I got to go watch him the last time and he seemed to really be having a good time.

Nate – Last year I bought suckers on clearance after Valentine’s Day and saved them with the plan to make the kids valentines. The Saturday before Nate and I took the picture and I added lettering and a border with Photoshop, my friend picked them up on Monday, and we had them finished for the next day. They turned out awesome and it was so fun to watch the kids reaction at the Valentine’s party (I got to help at) as he handed them out. Nathan also decided to make a Valentine box out of Lego, the day before. Of course, he did an amazing job and won “the best overall” chosen by his teacher and the aid. While I did do a good job helping Nate make his valentines, I didn’t win any awards yesterday when I missed the maturation program. I had it on my calendar, I told Nate I would be there, and completely forgot. I was so busy getting things clean and organized that I didn’t even look at my calendar. Nathan was a sweetheart and told me it was okay, but I still feel horrible for letting him down.
Matthew – Last week the school put on an amazing patriotic program. Each grade had their own part and they all did such a great job. I really like the school that the kids attend and I am so proud of the focus that they put on respect and love for our country. Matthew did a great job and sang the whole time! (Nathan was supposed to be in the program and hold up “Arizona” during the 50 nifty song, but it was the week the boys were all sick and he ended up running to the office during rehearsal at school and made it just in time to throw up on the garbage. He didn’t make it to the program that night.)

Michael – I knew there was something wrong when I looked into Michaels eyes, he just looked sick. Sure enough, he has a double ear infection. He is already so strong willed and having to give him medicine he doesn’t like is a special treat. I have been trying to use some of the “Love and Logic” techniques I have been learning and he seems to like to make choices. I think it makes him feel like he is in control, and that is what Michael likes. Michael has also been having a lot of play dates and has enjoyed all the different and new friends that he has made. One thing that makes it nice is that his best friends lives across the street and wants to play quite often.

Jacob – My cute, funny, busy little baby! I love this little BIG guy and so does everyone that comes in contact with him. Jakey weighs 25 lbs., he is taking up to 10 steps at a time and then realizes what he is doing and reaches for the ground. Jacob loves to sit on anything, pillows, scriptures, boxes, toys. He does a cute little spin around on his bottom by shuffling his feet around. Jacob has been picking up the vents and the other day I caught him throwing Bob the Tomato down the living room vent. Jacob’s cough turned into croup. The Dr. gave him a spoon of chocolate with a steroid in it to help open his airway. We had a couple bad nights, but he is doing well. Jacob says mama, dada, no no no, and loves to yell.

Weekly Update

Cards for Nana
Look! It's Africa!
Train show

Yummy!
Jake loves his biggest brother!

Connor- John and I wanted to go out on a date and have come to realize that we should probably pay Connor for tending when we do. So I asked Connor, "Do you want to tend for pay tomorrow?" To which Connor asked, "Who's Pay?" Connor got to go to his first fencing class on Saturday, and really enjoyed it.

Nathan- Nathan was trying to figure out if he wanted to save his money for an itouch (Connor wanted to sale him his), NXT or motor parts for his Lego creations. He finally decided (after we told Connor that he couldn’t tell him what he should do) and he ordered the motors. They came in the mail this week and he has been having a ball creating bumper cars with lights and figuring out different ways to make the wheels move and work together. I love to see if create!

Matthew- Matt loves to create right along with Nathan. He has been building a city with buildings, vehicles and dinosaurs in the family room downstairs. Matthew is not very cuddly, but I finally got him to give me a kiss, on the lips! Wednesday we had Brinner (Breakfast for dinner) and Matthew eat his ham into the shape of Africa.

Michael- Michael got a 2 wheel bike for Christmas that he rides around the house. He calls it his “Chicco Red-Bullet fast bike” and wants you to watch how fast he can go. This week he went to his friend Tad’s again and asked, “What Benich are you? I am Michael Stanley Benich.” He also asks every day if he can go play with “Tadders”. I guess that is what they call him at his house. Michael was pretty excited when he saw Tad at church today and ran right up to him to say hi! Michael was supposed to give a talk in sharing time today, but I ended up giving the talk while he hid behind the podium.

Jacob- Jakey loves scripture time at our house. He crawls around the room and will sit on the scriptures of who is reading. We can’t help but laugh and he loves the attention. Jacob loves to stand up and has even taken a few steps on his own. He is getting pretty fast at walking along the couch and loves to sit and play on the couch.

Jamie- I think my iron finally started working. Monday I was able to stay up a little longer than I had been and even emptied and loaded the dish washer, and started the laundry before I had to lie back down. I even got down to one nap a day the last few days! For the Super Bowl, the kids chose their favorite snacks and we had a little party and invited my parents out to enjoy the spread. I did get some results back, my iron had gone up a little, but so had my bilirubin. My doctor decided that I should go see a hematologist so I have an appointment tomorrow and look forward to finding some answers. I asked Nathan and Connor if they would fast for me today and they both fasted through breakfast. I am grateful for their love for me and their faith to help me get the help that I need.

John- It was Nana’s Birthday this week so we made ate brownies and made Nana Birthday cards for family night. John scanned them into the computer and we emailed them to her. We even stayed up so that we could be one of the first to wish her “Happy Birthday from the states! John took Michael on a special date to the “Train show”. Michael though he was going to a movie, not a convention. They stood in line for 45 minutes and rode a train for 1 minute. Michael loved it. He got to play with Thomas trains and see lots of mini train sets. John even got him a hot dog, what a great special date! John also finished our taxes (My favorite time of year) and will get them sent in this week, yeah! Not much of a refund, but at least we don’t owe!
